LANDORMY (Paul). Gounod. - Lot 202
LANDORMY (Paul). Gounod.
Paris, Gallimard, “Génie de la France” series, 1942.
8vo, paperback, with the publisher’s illustrated cover.
A biography of Charles Gounod by musicologist and music critic Paul Landormy (1869–1943), one of the foremost historians of French music in the first half of the 20th century. The book traces the career of the composer of *Faust*, *Romeo and Juliet*, and *Mireille*, focusing on both his artistic development and his role in the revival of French music in the 19th century.
This copy is enhanced by a signed autograph dedication from the author:
“To Pierre Leroi,
With warmest regards,
P. Landormy”
This dedication, written shortly before Landormy’s death in December 1943, makes this copy of particular interest to collectors of music, cultural history, and literary autographs.
A fine copy preserved in its original booklet binding. The cover is slightly yellowed with subtle signs of wear. The interior is fresh, with paper uniformly tinted—as is often the case with wartime editions—and no notable defects.
