HOFMANN (Rostislav). Mussorgsky. - Lot 186
HOFMANN (Rostislav). Mussorgsky. Paris, Éditions du Coudrier, 1952. In-12, paperback, illustrated cover. A French edition devoted to the life and work of the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky (1839–1881), a leading figure of the Group of Five and the composer of works that have become iconic in the Russian repertoire, such as Boris Godunov, Khovanshchina, and Pictures at an Exhibition. Rostislav Hofmann meticulously traces the musician’s artistic journey, his role in the renewal of the Russian musical language, and the sometimes contentious relationships he maintained with his contemporaries, notably Rimsky-Korsakov and Balakirev. The book, published under the artistic direction of Jean-Jacques Broutier, is part of Éditions du Coudrier’s commitment to introducing the French public to the great figures of Slavic culture. It offers an interesting insight into the Western reception of Russian music in the mid-20th century. Condition Original illustrated paperback preserved. Very slight signs of wear and handling on the cover. Interior is fresh and well-preserved. Copy printed on Cellunaf alfa vellum, unnumbered.
