ENNE (Francis) & MONPROFIT (Octave), Panthéon républicain Paris, Arthème Fayard, [1874]. Large folio, red half-maroquin with corner pieces, smooth spine decorated with gold fillets and title embossed in gold. An edition dedicated to the leading figures of the nascent Republic, illustrated with an allegorical title vignette and 79 engraved portraits depicting the principal political, intellectual, and social figures of the 19th century. The work constitutes a remarkable iconographic record of the republican culture of the early years of the Third Republic. The biographical entries, accompanied by engraved portraits of great artistic finesse, offer an overview of the men who shaped French political life during their time. A copy with a complete set of portraits, preserved in an elegant period binding. The binding is in good condition, with some minor scuffing and wear on the head and foot bands, nothing serious. The interior is in good condition, with paper that has uniformly browned over time, as is often the case, and a few scattered foxing spots. A fine copy for reference and collection.
