CHARAVAY (Étienne), Electoral Assembly of Paris. November 18 - Lot 111
CHARAVAY (Étienne), Electoral Assembly of Paris. November 18, 1790 – June 15, 1791. Paris, D. Jouaust, Charles Noblet, and Maison Quantin, 1890. Large 8vo, red half-shagreen, decorated ribbed spine, gilt title, marbled paper covers. An important publication from the Collection of Documents Relating to the History of Paris during the French Revolution, compiled by the archivist and paleographer Étienne Charavay based on the originals preserved at the National Archives. The work compiles the minutes of the Paris Electoral Assembly from November 1790 to June 1791, pertaining to the election of judges, administrators, public prosecutors, bishops, parish priests, presidents of criminal courts, and other representatives of the new administrative organization that emerged from the Revolution. Enriched with numerous historical and biographical notes, this volume constitutes a first-rate documentary source for the study of Parisian political, judicial, and administrative personnel at the outset of the French Revolution. The biographical information compiled by Charavay remains a valuable tool for researchers, historians, and genealogists to this day. A beautiful copy in an elegant early 20th-century bibliophile’s binding. The binding is in good condition. The interior is in very good condition.
