CHARAVAY (Étienne), Electoral Assembly of Paris. September 2, 1792 – 17 Frimaire, Year II
Paris, Maison Quantin, Charles Noblet and Cerf, 1905.
In-8, elegant contemporary binding in red half-maroquin with corner pieces, ribbed spine decorated with gilt metal fittings repeated in the panels, covers preserved.
An important publication from the Collection of Documents Relating to the History of Paris during the French Revolution, compiled and annotated by Étienne Charavay (1848–1899), an archivist and paleographer and member of the famous dynasty of scholars and autograph collectors. Based on the National Archives, this volume reproduces the minutes of the Electoral Assembly of the Department of Paris, which met between September 1792 and December 1793—a decisive period marked by the election of deputies to the National Convention and the establishment of new revolutionary institutions.
A primary source for the political history of the French Revolution, this volume brings together a wealth of documentation on the key figures, elections, debates, and electoral mechanisms in the capital during the Convention era. Charavay’s historical and biographical notes further enhance its appeal to researchers, historians, and specialized collectors.
A fine copy in a neat early 20th-century binding, reflecting the renewed scholarly interest in revolutionary sources during the Third Republic.
Condition: The binding is in good overall condition despite some scuffing along the spine and a slight mark on the edge of the front cover. The interior is fresh, with paper that is uniformly browned at the margins, and no major defects.
