CHAMPION (Édouard). The Book in the United States. - Lot 109
CHAMPION (Édouard). The Book in the United States.
Paris, Typographie Philippe Renouard, 1927.
In-8, paperback, original printed cover.
A rare offprint from the *Revue des Deux Mondes* (issues of May 15 and June 1, 1927), in which Édouard Champion, publisher, bookseller, and bibliographer, presents a particularly interesting study of the organization of the book industry in the United States in the aftermath of World War I.
Through an analysis informed by firsthand observations, the author examines American publishing practices, the spectacular growth of public libraries, the dissemination of books in universities, publishers’ business methods, and the role of reading in American society. This account is now a valuable document for the history of books, bibliophilia, and Franco-American intellectual exchanges in the early 20th century.
Copy preserved in its original brochure binding. Cover is slightly faded with a few small marginal tears and signs of wear, as is often the case with this type of ephemeral publication. Interior is fresh and well-preserved.
The front cover bears a handwritten dedication: “With best regards from Édouard Champion,” lending the copy added interest for enthusiasts of bibliography and the history of the book.
