CHAM & EMY. Caricature Follies. - Lot 108
CHAM & EMY. Caricature Follies.
Paris, mid-19th century.
Large oblong folio in its original illustrated cover.
A rare collection of lithographed caricatures bringing together the humorous drawings of Cham (Amédée de Noé) and Emy. The volume brings together numerous satirical plates devoted to Parisian customs, theatrical life, the press, and the foibles of the bourgeoisie under the July Monarchy and the Second Empire. The compositions, with their remarkable graphic freshness, bear witness to the golden age of French caricature.
This copy is preserved in its original illustrated cover, which has become quite rare.
Condition: wear on the cover, foxing, a well-handled but complete copy.
