BECQUEREL (Antoine-César) & BECQUEREL (Edmond), Elements - Lot 38
BECQUEREL (Antoine-César) & BECQUEREL (Edmond), Elements of Terrestrial Physics and Meteorology
Paris, Librairie de Firmin Didot Frères, 1847.
In-8, paperback, original printed cover.
First edition of this important treatise devoted to the physical phenomena of the Earth and the scientific study of the atmosphere. Antoine-César Becquerel, a member of the Academy of Sciences, collaborated here with his son Edmond to present a comprehensive synthesis of contemporary knowledge in geophysics, meteorology, terrestrial magnetism, physical geology, and climatology.
The work reflects the rise of the Earth sciences in the mid-19th century and brings together numerous observations, experiments, and theories related to natural phenomena. It is illustrated with 14 fold-out plates, including magnetic maps, geological representations, and scientific diagrams intended to accompany the text.
This copy is preserved in its original binding. The cover shows some signs of wear and small marginal tears, with a missing section on the back cover and a fragile spine. The interior remains in very fresh condition, complete with all 14 fold-out plates, and shows no significant foxing. A fine working copy of a scientific work that has become rare in its original condition.
