BECQUEREL (Antoine-César), A Comprehensive Treatise on Magne - Lot 36
BECQUEREL (Antoine-César), A Comprehensive Treatise on Magnetism Paris, Librairie de Firmin Didot Frères, 1846. In-8, paperback, original printed cover. An important first edition of one of the major scientific treatises devoted to the study of magnetism in the 19th century. Antoine-César Becquerel, a member of the Academy of Sciences and a leading figure in French experimental physics, compiles in this work the state of knowledge of his time on magnetic phenomena, terrestrial magnetism, the properties of magnetized bodies, and their applications in the physical sciences. The work is illustrated with 20 fold-out plates, featuring measuring instruments, experimental setups, observation devices, and scientific maps, reflecting the remarkable development of research in electromagnetism during the July Monarchy. This copy is preserved in its original paperback binding. The cover shows some wear, small tears, and fragility along the spine, consistent with the nature of the binding. The interior is in very good condition, complete with all 20 fold-out plates, several of which are large-format. The paper is fresh, with no significant foxing. A rare scientific reference work, difficult to find complete with its plates and in its original condition.
