ANNEQUIN (Guy), Jean Fouquet: Prince of Illumination. - Lot 9
ANNEQUIN (Guy), Jean Fouquet: Prince of Illumination. Paris, Éditions de Crémille, 1989. Large quarto, publisher’s blue suede-like cloth binding with gold decoration, silk bookmark. A fine monograph devoted to Jean Fouquet (c. 1420–1481), a major figure in 15th-century French painting and considered one of the greatest illuminators of the Renaissance. The book traces the career of the master from Tours, his stay in Italy, his role in the service of Charles VII and Louis XI, as well as his decisive influence on the art of illuminated manuscripts. Richly illustrated, the volume reproduces in color Fouquet’s masterpieces: the famous *Book of Hours of Étienne Chevalier*, the miniatures from the Munich *Boccaccio*, the paintings from the *Book of Hours*, as well as numerous details that allow readers to appreciate the finesse of his drawing, the modernity of his perspective, and the incomparable brilliance of his palette. A reference work intended for enthusiasts of medieval art history, illuminated manuscripts, and bibliophilia. The reproductions, executed with particular care, offer a remarkable introduction to the master’s work. A very fine copy in its original decorative cardboard binding. The interior is in fresh condition and lavishly illustrated in color.
