SYKOROVA (Libuše). - Lot 262
SYKOROVA (Libuše). Prague, Artia, circa 1959–1961. A major monograph devoted to Paul Gauguin’s prints, and more specifically to his famous woodcuts created in Brittany and later in Tahiti. Written by the Czech art historian Libuše Sykorová, this book remains one of the first illustrated overviews entirely devoted to this essential aspect of Gauguin’s work. Richly illustrated, it traces the evolution of his graphic style, marked by Symbolism, Oceanic art, and decorative simplification—elements that would profoundly influence 20th-century modern art. Description: Large quarto, hardcover with an illustrated dust jacket. Numerous black-and-white reproductions and inset plates. A fine copy despite some signs of wear on the dust jacket.
