STEINLEN (Alexandre) - JOURDAIN (Francis). - Lot 258
STEINLEN (Alexandre) - JOURDAIN (Francis). Paris, Éditions Cercle d'Art. An important monograph devoted to Alexandre Steinlen (1859–1923), one of the most remarkable illustrators, poster artists, and draftsmen of the Belle Époque. A friend of the Montmartre scene and a contributor to *Le Chat Noir*, Steinlen remains famous for his posters, his depictions of everyday life, and his sensitive portrayals of the working class. Written by Francis Jourdain, a close friend of the artist, this book is a first-rate account of his graphic work. The extensive illustrations include some of the most representative posters, drawings, lithographs, and illustrations of his career. Condition noted: publisher’s red cloth binding, without dust jacket. Minor wear on the corners.
