ROSARIO (Arthur Bispo do) - Lot 239
ROSARIO (Arthur Bispo do)
Paris, Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume / Air France, circa 1993.
A two-volume illustrated box set devoted to the unique work of Arthur Bispo do Rosário (1909–1989), a major figure in Art Brut and 20th-century visionary art. Confined for several decades to a psychiatric hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Bispo do Rosário developed a monumental body of work consisting of embroideries, assemblages, inventories, and symbolic objects intended to reconstruct the world from a perspective that was both mystical and encyclopedic.
Published to coincide with the exhibition at the Jeu de Paume National Gallery, this collection includes the catalog *La Clé des champs* as well as a second documentary volume dedicated to the artist. The abundant illustrations offer a glimpse into the richness of this unique universe, now considered one of the pinnacles of international art brut.
A beautiful set in its original slipcase, illustrated with numerous color reproductions and archival documents. An essential record of a body of work that has become indispensable to the history of contemporary art.
2 in-4 volumes in the publisher’s illustrated slipcase.
