BELLART (Nicolas-François) (1761-1826) - Lot 310
BELLART (Nicolas-François) (1761-1826) French lawyer, magistrate and politician. Public prosecutor at the Royal Court of Paris during the Restoration, famous for his role in the major political trials of his time and for his influence within the royal judiciary. Official document signed "Bellart", Paris, May 17, 1821, in-folio printed by the Cour royale de Paris - Parquet - Ordre du Procureur général, with wet seal of the public prosecutor's office. Interesting judicial document ordering the immediate release of an inmate from the Bicêtre prison. The Attorney General prescribes: "The concierge of the Maison de Bicêtre will immediately release, if he is not detained for any other reason, the named Frédéric Pingré..." The document specifies that Pingré had been convicted of : "domestic theft". to five years' imprisonment by judgment of the Paris Assize Court on April 29, 1816, enforceable since the following May 18, and that his sentence had now been served in full: "...and whose sentence expires today." This document is a particularly concrete testimony to the day-to-day workings of criminal justice under the Second Restoration. Unlike royal letters of clemency, this is the normal execution of a sentence that has come to an end, materialized by an official order of release from the public prosecutor's office. The document bears the seal of the public prosecutor's office and the autograph signature of Bellart, then Attorney General of the Royal Court of Paris. This document is typical of French prison and judicial administration in the early 19th century. Condition: very good; original administrative folds; clearly visible wet stamp; slight traces of handling, not serious.
