BACHELET (Alfred Georges). - Lot 290
BACHELET (Alfred Georges). French composer and conductor. 1864-1944. Prix de Rome in 1890. Director of the Opéra-Comique. Autograph document signed concerning the declaration of the Scemo work. Paris, July 14, 1919. 2 large printed folio pages, completed and signed, with autograph musical notation on verso. Important declaration form filed with the Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Éditeurs de Musique (SACEM) concerning the lyric drama Scemo, in three acts and five tableaux, presented at the Académie nationale de musique on May 6, 1914. The document refers to : - Charles Méré as author ; - Alfred Bachelet as composer; - Max Eschig as publisher. The piece is signed by Alfred Bachelet at the bottom of the form: "Alfred Bachelet". The reverse side features a precious autograph musical excerpt with handwritten notation and lyrics, intended for the work's regulatory deposit. It reads in part: "Ah! Ah! Ah!" and several passages annotated in red concerning the orchestration and sung fragments. A pupil of Massenet and an important figure in French lyrical music at the beginning of the 20th century, Alfred Bachelet enjoyed great success with his operas and orchestral works. This document bears direct witness to the formalities involved in registering a major lyric work on the eve of the First World War. An interesting combination of musical manuscript, copyright administration and Paris Opera history.
