SÉGUR (Paul-Philippe de) - Lot 283
SÉGUR (Paul-Philippe de) SÉGUR, Paul-Philippe de (1780-1873). Autograph letter signed and addressed to a lady. Beautiful autograph letter signed "P. de Ségur", written on an in-8 sheet, in which the Comte de Ségur courteously thanks his correspondent for her kind invitation and announces the upcoming arrival of his daughter: "Your very kind bill... your dear daughter Marie with us next Sunday at 6:1/4..." The warm, worldly tone of this letter reflects the customs of aristocratic and literary sociability in the XIXᵉ century. In it, Ségur also expresses his regrets at not having been able to reply sooner, while renewing his empressed sentiments to his addressee. Historian, memorialist and academician, Paul-Philippe de Ségur was one of the great witnesses to the First Empire, author notably of the famous Histoire de Napoléon et de la Grande Armée pendant l'année 1812. His private correspondence remains sought-after for the elegance of its style and the insight it provides into the political and literary circles of his time. Charming autograph piece, with ample and particularly legible handwriting, emanating from a major figure of Napoleonic memory in the XIXᵉ century.
