FALAISEAU (Adam) - Lot 276
FALAISEAU (Adam) FALAISEAU, Adam. (1575-1626). Advisor and physician to Henri IV. P.S. "Adam Falaiseau", June 30, 1601; oblong vellum. Interesting document signed by Adam Falaiseau, physician and advisor to King Henri IV, concerning payment of his wages to the King's household. The document is a receipt for "one hundred escuz" paid for the January, February and March 1601 quarters. Payment was made by Jacques de Grard, Treasurer General of the King's Household, mentioned in the body of the document and on the reverse in the administrative receipt form. This document bears witness to the financial operations of the royal household at the beginning of Henri IV's personal reign, in the years following the pacification of the kingdom after the Wars of Religion. Documents relating to physicians directly attached to the sovereign remain rare, particularly when they are preserved on vellum with an autograph signature. Fine early 17th-century cursive handwriting, with well-formed signature of Adam Falaiseau at the bottom of the document. Traces of moisture, small holes and marginal wear not serious; well preserved and perfectly legible.
