COURRADE (Augustin) - Lot 270
COURRADE (Augustin) COURRADE, Augustin. Advisor and physician to Louis XIII. P.S. "Courrade". S.l., December 31, 1635; vellum in-4 oblong. Signed document from Augustin Courrade, ordinary physician to King Louis XIII, concerning payment of his wages for the last quarter of 1635. The document is an autograph receipt for "three cens livres" received for the fees attached to his position with the King's household. The text, written on vellum, specifies that the sum was paid by Nicolas Camus, Treasurer General of the King's Household, "for the last quarter of my yearly wages". On the reverse is an autograph note: "Pour servir de quittance...", confirming the administrative function of the document. Courrade" signature well detached at the bottom of the document. Interesting testimony to the management of court medical officers during the reign of Louis XIII, at a time when the sovereign's ordinary physicians played an essential role in the organization of the royal household. A well-preserved document, despite some soiling, creasing and traces of ageing inherent to this type of 17th-century administrative document.
