DEMONDYERE (Louis), sieur Dugué. - Lot 267
DEMONDYERE (Louis), sieur Dugué. Physician to Louis XIV. P.S. "Demondyere S. Dugué". January 12, 1677; oblong vellum, with printed vignette and letterhead. Important autograph receipt signed by Louis Demondyere, sieur Dugué, ordinary physician to Louis XIV, concerning payment of his annual salary. The document, written on parchment with engraved royal vignette and printed chancery formula, records receipt of the sum of "douze cens livres" for the year 1676, corresponding to the October, November and December quarters. The document begins with the solemn formula: "En la présence des notaires gardes notes du Roy au Chastelet de Paris...", typical of financial deeds recorded during the reign of the Sun King. It is addressed to Paul Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain, then King's Counselor and Comptroller of the Royal Household, testifying to the administrative and accounting organization of the court under Louis XIV. Fine autograph signature "Demondyere" at the bottom of the deed, accompanied by the notary's countersignature. The document has a remarkable decorative character, with its printed header "Quittance - Cinq Sols" and its large oblong format on vellum. On the verso, old traces of filing and handwritten archival annotations. The whole is in a satisfactory state of preservation, despite significant dampening, staining and alterations to the parchment, typical of this type of 17th-century administrative document.
