SEGUIN (Pierre). - Lot 265
SEGUIN (Pierre). SEGUYN or SEGUIN (Pierre). King's advisor and physician, Doctor Regent of the Faculty of Paris, Professor of Surgery at the Collège Royal, first physician to Queen Anne of Austria; signatory of Henri IV's autopsy report. P.S. "Seguyn". S.l., October 6, 1618. Vellum in-4 oblong. Important autograph receipt signed by Pierre Seguyn, one of the great French medical figures of the early 17th century, then advisor and ordinary physician to the king. The document records the receipt of : "...the sum of four hundred livres tournois from my fees as advisor and ordinary physician to His Majesty...". A renowned physician, professor of surgery at the Collège Royal and Doctor Regent of the Paris Faculty of Medicine, Pierre Seguyn was attached to the courts of Henri IV and Louis XIII. His name remains particularly famous for having participated in the official autopsy report on Henri IV after the sovereign's assassination in 1610. This document is thus a rare testimony to the financial administration of royal medicine under the first Bourbons. Receipts from court physicians of this rank are rare on the market. Fine autograph signature "Seguyn". Soft vellum, with the usual folds and a few traces of old handling, in good condition.
