SEGUYN (Charles). - Lot 262
SEGUYN (Charles). First physician to Anne of Austria. P.S. on verso "Seguyn". June 30, 1655. Parchment in-4 oblong. Rare autograph receipt signed by Charles Seguyn, first physician to Queen Anne of Austria, concerning payment of a quarterly pension attached to his office: "...Quittance de quinze cens livres pour un quartier de mes pensions et entretenement à cause de ma dicte charge de premier médecin de la Reyne...". This administrative document, written on parchment, bears witness to the salaries and pensions granted to the principal medical officers of the royal household during the regency of Anne of Austria and the early years of Louis XIV's personal reign. Charles Seguyn held the prestigious position of first physician to Queen Anne of Austria, a particularly influential position within the court. Documents relating to the salaries and pensions of royal physicians remain rare, most having disappeared from the administrative archives of the Ancien Régime. Fine autograph signature "Seguyn" on verso. Parchment with a heavy patina of wetness, stains and traces of old folds, without any major damage to the text. A document of great interest for the history of court medicine under the Bourbons.
