BERGER (Claude). - Lot 255
BERGER (Claude).
Doctor of Medicine at the University of Paris.
P.A.S. "Berger".
Paris, February 20, 1698. Vellum in-4 oblong with vignette printed with the royal coat of arms.
Interesting autograph receipt relating to an annuity constituted on the aids and gabelles of the city of Paris.
Doctor Claude Berger acknowledges receipt of :
"the sum of seventy-five livres for the first six months of the year... on account of one hundred and fifty livres of annuity constituted on March 25, 1682 on the aids and gabelles...".
This financial document bears witness to the annuity system under the reign of Louis XIV, with income here guaranteed by the tax revenues of the Parisian "aides et gabelles". The document also illustrates the investments and additional income of members of the learned professions at the end of the 17th century.
Beautiful piece on vellum, decorated with a royal typographical vignette. Legible handwriting. Traces of use, old folds and a few minor marginal stains.
