BERTRAND (Pierre). - Lot 254
BERTRAND (Pierre). Physician and advisor to King Henri IV. First physician to the king and author of several medical and political treatises at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. P.S. "Bertran". November 30, 1601. Oblong vellum in-folio. Rare autograph document concerning the payment of wages to Henri IV's physician. Bertrand acknowledges receipt of a sum of "two cens escus" ordered for half a year's salary: "Reçu d'une somme de deux cens escus à moy ordonnée pour demie année de mes gaiges à cause de mondit estat durant les quartiers de janvier, février et mars...". Administrative document from the very end of the reign of Henri IV, describing the operation of the King's household and the remuneration of medical officers attached to the sovereign. A beautiful and rare piece on vellum, in the cursive script characteristic of the early 17th century. Traces of use and old folds, a few stains and marginal wear, but a well-preserved and perfectly legible document.
