MACKAU (Ange René Armand, baron de). - Lot 253
MACKAU (Ange René Armand, baron de). Paris, 1788 - Paris, 1855. French sailor and statesman. Minister of the Navy and Colonies under the July Monarchy, Peer of France, Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor. L.A.S. "de Mackau" to a "Très cher questeur". [Paris], February 28, 1844. 2 pp. in-8, on printed letterhead of the Ministère de la Marine et des Colonies, Cabinet du Ministre. Interesting letter of recommendation and parliamentary courtesy from the Minister of the Navy. Mackau requests that a ticket be sent to allow a member of the Admiralty Council to attend sittings: "You would be very kind if you would send me tomorrow a new ticket for the member of the Admiralty Council whom I would like to see attend your sittings..." He concludes with the most deferential of customary formulas: "I have come to thank you in advance for the kindness you have shown me, and to renew to you the assurance of my most devoted feelings. A fine letter from the ministerial cabinet of one of the great administrators of the Navy under Louis-Philippe, written shortly after his appointment as Minister of the Navy and Colonies in July 1843. A well-preserved document, with ample, elegant handwriting and a handsome engraved ministry letterhead.
