LA RONCIÈRE LE NOURY (Camille, baron Clément de) - Lot 251
LA RONCIÈRE LE NOURY (Camille, baron Clément de) Turin, 1813 - Paris, 1881. French admiral. Commander of the sailors detached to the Paris forts during the 1870 war, future president of the Société de Géographie. L.A.S. "de la Roncière-Le Noury" to an unnamed correspondent. Paris, April 15, 1870. 1 p. in-8. Interesting autograph letter concerning military preparations for the Franco-Prussian war. The admiral warmly thanks his correspondent for an intervention obtained "in favor of my capital", presumably in a context of reorganization or reinforcement of military resources intended for the defense of Paris: "I'm not sure she wouldn't prefer cavalry to infantry. But it's still something you've got there...". La Roncière-Le Noury goes on to express his gratitude for this approach to the authorities, concluding with "a thousand compliments" and the assurance of his devoted feelings. A fine letter from an important player in the defense of Paris in 1870, written a few months before the siege of Paris. Well-preserved manuscript in large, legible handwriting, signed.
