BAUDIN (Charles) - Lot 228
BAUDIN (Charles) Paris, 1784 - 1854. French naval officer. Admiral. L.A.S. "Ch. Baudin" to a colleague. S.l.n.d. 1 page in-8. Interesting autograph letter in which Admiral Baudin evokes a step taken "in the interest of two unfortunate proscribed brothers". He writes to his correspondent: "My colleague, I have an appointment this afternoon in the interest of two unfortunate proscribed brothers...". While announcing his intention to attend, he fears that he will be late and asks his correspondent to apologize to their colleagues: "I will certainly come to the session; but, if I arrive a little late, please ask our fellow members of the Bureau and Congress to excuse me in advance." The letter, written in rapid, energetic handwriting, is signed "Ch. Baudin" with his characteristic broad initials. Embossed monogrammed paper. Interesting testimony to the networks of solidarity and political or administrative intervention in ruling circles under the July Monarchy and the Second Republic, where Baudin played an important role both in the navy and in public life.
