PRÉVOST DE LONGPÉRIER (Adrien) - Lot 217
PRÉVOST DE LONGPÉRIER (Adrien) Paris, 1816 - 1882. French archaeologist and numismatist. Curator at the Musée du Louvre and later at the Cabinet des Médailles, he was one of France's leading specialists in oriental antiquity and numismatics in the 19th century. L.A.S. "A. de Longpérier", s.l.n.d., 1 p. in-12. Brief letter of transmittal addressed to a correspondent to whom Longpérier forwards "the letters of our correspondence that Mme des Nergis has returned to me". He apologizes for the absence of an extract or additional note, explaining that he is "at the moment pressed relentlessly by several affairs for the administration". Interesting autograph bill testifying to the scholar's daily activity and his administrative duties within French learned institutions. The mention of Madame des Nergis evokes the circle of scholarly correspondences and collectors who gravitated around 19th-century archaeological and numismatic circles. Fine signature by Adrien de Longpérier.
