SAISSET (Jean-Théodore) - Lot 213
SAISSET (Jean-Théodore) Paris, 1810 - 1879. French vice-admiral, deputy and member of the National Assembly. Government Commissioner General during the Paris Commune, he played an important political and military role during the Second Empire and early Third Republic. L.A.S. "Saisset", as a member of the National Assembly, to Commissaire général. Paris, June 28, 1871, 1 p. in-folio. Mourning paper. Interesting letter concerning an industrial project in Audierne. Saisset strongly recommends to his correspondent "his friend Monsieur Delacuze Tréviard", who wishes to establish "a factory in Audierne". Two issues remain to be settled: the removal of excavated material and, above all, the rental of the land. The admiral pointed out that the local maritime authority had already allowed the spoil to be transported under the eyes of its agents, and wished to avoid any administrative conflict between the Navy and the Ponts-et-Chaussées. He therefore requested the intervention of the Commissioner General to facilitate the outcome of the affair and allow the plant to be set up under the best possible conditions. A very interesting testimony to the relationship between maritime administration, public works and industrial development in post-Commune France. The document concretely illustrates the difficulties of setting up industry on the coast, as well as the arbitrations between civil and military authorities. Fine signature by Admiral Saisset, with autograph note on verso recalling his duties as vice-admiral and his role during the events of 1848.
