VINCENT (Hyacinthe, Jean). Born in Bordeaux, 1862-1950. Fren - Lot 193
VINCENT (Hyacinthe, Jean). Born in Bordeaux, 1862-1950. French military physician, bacteriologist and professor at the Collège de France. Discoverer of the fuso-spirillary infection known as "Vincent's angina" and author of major works on vaccines and serums against typhoid and gas gangrene. Member of the Académie de Médecine (1907), then of the Académie des Sciences (1922).
L.A.S. "H. Vincent" addressed to Dr. Beckers.
Paris, January 26, 1933. 1 p. 1/3 in-8 on Collège de France letterhead, Laboratoire des maladies infectieuses et épidémiques.
Touching letter of condolence to a colleague following the death of his mother. Vincent writes that he has learned "with great sorrow" from the Gazette des Hôpitaux "of the cruel bereavement that has just struck you in the person of your mother". He asks his correspondent to accept his "heartfelt condolences" and associates his wife with this expression of sympathy.
This sober letter reveals the humanity and delicacy of the great military doctor, a major figure in French microbiology in the first half of the 20th century. The tone, marked by restraint and elegance, bears witness to the bonds of solidarity that united medical and hospital circles at the time.
Very fine letterhead from the Collège de France, mentioning the Laboratoire des maladies infectieuses et épidémiques and "member of the Institute". Beautifully legible manuscript in black ink. A moving testimony to scholarly and medical sociability under the Third Republic.
