VERRIER (Anatole-Joseph) - Lot 190
VERRIER (Anatole-Joseph) Château-Gontier, 1841 - 1920. Journalist, member of the Société d'Agriculture, laureate of the Académie française. L.A.S. signed "A. J. Verrier" to "Dear Mr. Bordier". Angers, July 1, 1886. 1 page in-8 in black ink on laid paper. Charming letter with a literary and theatrical tone, written in ample, elegant script, in which Anatole-Joseph Verrier warmly thanks his correspondent for obtaining a precious "safe-conduct" enabling him to attend theatrical performances without difficulty. The journalist writes in particular: "... the most amiable epistle [...] it has greatly satisfied my wish and my joy is real [...] henceforth in the great hall of the theater, without any worries, I will be able to tell the story; without exciting any scandal, and of the drama and the opera, and comedy, et cætera..." The letter continues in a witty, light-hearted tone, mixing classical references and a final joke: "Sapristi! these are verses! too bad!" A fine, well-preserved set, offering an interesting insight into literary and theatrical life in Anjou at the end of the 19th century.
