TAKAHASHI (Michiaki) - Lot 188
TAKAHASHI (Michiaki) Michiaki Takahashi 1928-2013. Japanese virologist, professor at Osaka University, world-renowned for developing the first live attenuated varicella vaccine. Autograph card signed in English, with passport photograph attached, Osaka, n.d.; in-16 squared bristol card. Very interesting first-hand scientific account of the development of the varicella vaccine. In this autograph text, Professor Takahashi himself summarizes his discovery: "I have developed live attenuated varicella vaccine using primary rabbit kidney cells. I am so pleased that many children will be free from suffering from varicella and its complications by this vaccine." The card bears Michiaki Takahashi's full signature and handwritten professional contact details: "Associate Professor, Department of Virology, Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University, Suita, Osaka, Japan." An original black-and-white passport photograph of the Japanese scientist is enclosed, along with a typed introduction in French recalling the historical importance of his work in the prevention of chickenpox. Rare autograph document from a major player in twentieth-century medical research, whose work led to the vaccination of millions of children worldwide. Very good condition.
