ROY (Antoine) - Lot 186
ROY (Antoine) Antoine Roy Savigny (Haute-Marne), 1764 - Paris, 1847. Royalist lawyer, member of parliament and then minister of finance under the Restoration. L.A.S. "Roy", Paris, January 2, 1820; 1 p. in-4 on cream vellum. Brief and elegant autograph letter of thanks addressed to an anonymous correspondent, in which Antoine Roy acknowledges receipt of a letter of good wishes received at the beginning of the year. The future minister writes with the distinguished sobriety typical of the Restoration's administrative and social customs: "I am very grateful for your attention; please accept my thanks, and the assurance of my sincere attachment". A fine autograph politeness concluding a correspondence of convenience that bears witness to the relational networks and epistolary language of the French political elite in the early 19th century. Very fine "Roy" signature. Well-preserved document, with central mailing fold. Very fresh, perfectly legible ink. A fine copy on wove paper.
