ROY (Antoine) - Lot 185
ROY (Antoine)
Antoine Roy
Savigny (Haute-Marne), 1764 - Paris, 1847.
Royalist lawyer, Member of Parliament under the Restoration, several times Minister of Finance under Louis XVIII and Charles X.
L.A.S. "Roy", Paris, January 2, 1829; 1 p. in-4 on cream wove paper.
Charming autograph letter of greetings and thanks to an anonymous correspondent, in the courteous, highly codified style of Restoration high administration.
Roy acknowledges receipt of a letter addressed to him on the occasion of the New Year:
"I have received, Sir, the letter you have done me the honor of writing to me. I am very grateful for your memory and attention".
He asks his correspondent to convey his "respectful homage to your Ladies" and in turn expresses his best wishes:
"I wish you all the best for the New Year".
The letter ends with a particularly elegant formula of politeness:
"Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my old attachment".
A fine testimony to the epistolary habits and relational networks of political personnel under the Restoration and the July Monarchy, in simple, sober prose imbued with distinction.
Beautiful autograph signature "Roy".
Very good condition. Central mailing fold. Some discreet marginal foxing, not serious.
