ROY (Antoine) - Lot 184
ROY (Antoine)
Antoine Roy
Savigny (Haute-Marne), 1764 - Paris, 1847.
Royalist lawyer, member of parliament under the Restoration, budget rapporteur then finance minister under Louis XVIII and Charles X.
L.A.S. "Roy", Paris, January 16, 1845; 1 p. in-8 on cream vellum.
Interesting autograph letter of thanks and civility addressed to an unidentified correspondent, in the traditional context of New Year's greetings.
Roy elegantly apologizes for the delay in replying:
"I regret having delayed answering the letter you did me the honor of writing to me...".
He recalls the many occupations that kept him busy at the beginning of the year:
"In the first days of the new year, other more serious and demanding occupations joined me, leaving me no time to spare".
However, the former minister assures his correspondent that he has been "very sensitive" to the expressions of attachment and good wishes addressed to him, before renewing the expression of his gratitude and devoted feelings:
"It is always with the same pleasure that I express to you those which I do with all my heart for all that can ensure your fullest satisfaction".
A fine example of the epistolary habits of political and administrative personnel under the July Monarchy, revealing a measured, conciliatory style imbued with distinction.
Beautiful autograph signature "Roy".
Very good condition. Central mailing fold. Some very slight traces of use, not serious.
