RICHEPIN, Jean (1849-1926). French writer, poet and playwrig - Lot 176
RICHEPIN, Jean (1849-1926). French writer, poet and playwright, member of the Académie française, a leading figure in fin-de-siècle literature.
Set of two signed autograph pieces including an autograph greetings card and a signed autograph letter addressed to a certain "Monsieur du Puy".
The card, printed in Jean Richepin's name, bears a handwritten note:
"Avec nos meilleurs souhaits / et nos très affectueux souvenirs", signed in black ink.
The autograph letter, one page in-8, evokes with warmth and simplicity the recent birth of his daughter:
"... January 2nd made me the father of a little girl. Mother and child are doing well...".
The intimate, cordial tone of this missive illustrates the personal side of the famous author of Blasphèmes and La Chanson des Gueux, usually better represented on the market by literary or theatrical letters.
A fine, coherent set of biographical and family letters, providing an interesting insight into Jean Richepin's private life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Satisfactory condition; usual creases and slight marks of handling.
