PREVOST-PARADOL, Lucien-Anatole - Lot 169
PREVOST-PARADOL, Lucien-Anatole
Lucien-Anatole Prévost-Paradol
L.A.S. "P. Paradol" to a friend. S.l.n.d. [ca. 1860s]. 4 pages in-12.
Interesting friendly and literary letter from essayist and academician Lucien-Anatole Prévost-Paradol, evoking editorial exchanges and several relations from the Parisian intellectual world.
He thanks his correspondent for a letter forwarded by a duke:
"I have indeed received from the Duke a letter which gave me great pleasure and for which I beg you to thank him..."
Prévost-Paradol then mentions a planned trip "to the Egertons", before turning to one of his books:
"I no longer have, my dear friend, a single copy of the Discourse you have the good grace to ask me for; but I shall shortly publish a new collection in which it will be contained, and it will be a real pleasure for me to offer it to you."
A fine letter that bears witness to the literary and journalistic networks of the late Second Empire, in the elegant, spontaneous style characteristic of the author. The text also reveals how books and offprints were circulated in the intellectual circles of the time.
Good overall condition, despite folds of correspondence and minor marginal wear. Legible manuscript and neat signature.
