PERRIN (Édouard). - Lot 166
PERRIN (Édouard). L.A.S. "Edouard Perrin" addressed to the director of the Office national météorologique. Paris, October 18, 1929. 1 page in-folio on letterhead of the Société d'Études des Hélicions Édouard Perrin, 61 avenue Victor-Emmanuel III, Paris. Autograph signature at the bottom of the letter. Administrative stamps of the Office national météorologique. Interesting letter concerning aeronautical tests conducted on behalf of the French Air Ministry in the late 1920s. Édouard Perrin requests an early complete weather report in preparation for preliminary experiments to be carried out "in weather as calm as possible", preferably between "6 a.m. and 8 a.m.". The document reflects the technical and meteorological constraints on French aeronautical research between the wars, and the growing importance of weather forecasting in aviation-related experiments. The letter also refers to the operational urgency of the tests: "It will therefore be essential for us to be in a position to proceed with our preparations from the early afternoon of the previous day...". A fine piece combining experimental aviation and French scientific history, on the elegant letterhead of a company specializing in helicon studies.
