PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) - Lot 149
PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) Lyon, February 7, 1828 - Autun, February 10, 1906. Oratorian, bishop of Autun, cardinal and French historian. L.A.S. signed "Adolphe Perraud", Paris, September 30, 1860; 1 page in-8. Interesting friendly and literary letter in which the young oratorian thanks his correspondent for sending him manuscript or printed pages that he promises to have his friends read. Perraud writes: "Thank you for remembering me - I'm very grateful. And I will have my friends read the pages you brought me yesterday." He goes on to mention various book exchanges and shared acquaintances, including a certain "Mr. Heinrich", before announcing a forthcoming departure for Lyon, where he is to "preach a retreat". The letter takes on a more intimate tone when he gives news of his mother: "My mother was very ill last week - thank God, she has been convalescing for two days." A fine letter from his youth, revealing Perraud's intellectual and spiritual network before his accession to the episcopate, combining family concerns, religious activity and literary sociability. Full signature: "Adolphe Perraud, Pr. de l'Or. de l'Immac. Conce." Very fine condition. Embossed Oratory letterhead.
