PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) - Lot 146
PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert)
Lyon, February 7, 1828 - Autun, February 10, 1906.
Oratorian, bishop of Autun, cardinal and French historian.
L.A.S. signed "A. Perraud", addressed to a law student, s.l.n.d. [circa 1850-1860]; 1 page in-8 with autograph address on verso.
Short, sympathetic letter of academic recommendation in which Perraud announces to his correspondent the imminent defense of a doctoral thesis:
"I inform you that tomorrow, Monday 29th, my friend Mr. Heinrich will defend his doctoral thesis at the Sorbonne. If you come, I'll probably see you there."
The letter ends with a particularly cordial formula:
"I affectionately shake your hand."
On verso, autograph address to:
"Monsieur A. Lait, étudiant en Droit, 9 rue Saint-Hyacinthe Saint-Michel".
A fine testimony to the intellectual and academic networks surrounding the young Adolphe Perraud before his accession to the episcopate. The signature is ample and elegant.
Very fine condition. Letter mounted on laid paper with embossed dry cancel.
