PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) - Lot 145
PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) Lyon, February 7, 1828 - Autun, February 10, 1906. Oratorian, bishop of Autun, cardinal and French historian. L.A.S. signed "Adolphe Perraud, prêtre de l'Oratoire", Paris, December 14 [no year, circa 1860-1870]; 3 pages in-8. Charming letter of congratulations to a friend on becoming a father, written in a deeply spiritual and affectionate style. Perraud writes warmly: "Please receive, for Mme your friend, although I do not have the honor of knowing her, and for you my most cordial congratulations." The future cardinal celebrates the birth as "both a great happiness and a great dignity", urging his correspondent to gratefully accept "the noble burden of the other". He also sends his blessings "on the young mother and on your dear newborn". The letter closes with a formula full of affection: "Believe me always your most affectionately devoted in N.-S." A beautiful testimony to Christian friendship and moral guidance from the pen of the young oratorian Adolphe Perraud, before his accession to the episcopate and then to the cardinalate. Very good condition. Lovely letter in black ink on embossed paper with the religious monogram "Jesus Maria Joseph".
