PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) - Lot 144
PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) Lyon, February 7, 1828 - Autun, February 10, 1906. Oratorian, bishop of Autun, cardinal and French historian. L.A.S., s.l.n.d. [circa 1870-1880]; 3 pages in-8. Interesting letter concerning a family and matrimonial matter, in which Perraud acts as intermediary and advisor to his correspondent. The prelate indicates that "M. l'abbé Megrière" has passed on to him the elements of the situation, and emphasizes the high regard in which he holds his interlocutor: "He believes that the difficulties and objections you have brought to my attention are easily solved". The letter specifies that the family concerned is that of "Mr. Quentin Bauchart, deputy to the Council of State and close friend of Mr. Baroche", a detail that anchors the document in the political and administrative networks of the late Second Empire. Perraud then organizes a very concrete meeting in Le Mans, giving travel directions and relay addresses: "Your name has not yet been mentioned to the family. You therefore have complete freedom to examine and obtain information". A fine letter of social and family mediation, revealing the role of moral and relational counsel played by leading ecclesiastics in 19th-century bourgeois and administrative circles. Very good condition. Usual folds. Beautiful brown ink, perfectly legible.
