PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) - Lot 126
PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) Lyon, February 7, 1828 - Autun, February 10, 1906. Oratorian, bishop of Autun, cardinal, ecclesiastical historian and member of the Académie française. L.A.S. "Perraud", Annecy, October 17, 1870, to a friend; 1 page in-8 on "Évêché d'Annecy" letterhead. Interesting letter written during the troubled weeks of the Franco-Prussian war. Perraud indicates that he had replied "by telegram" to a previous letter, and details his schedule and movements between Annecy and Aix. In particular, he describes a grueling overnight journey: "A night in a hotel tires me almost as much as a night on the railroad". The letter, which is very lively, bears witness to the difficulties of circulation and the organization of ecclesiastical travel in the context of the autumn of 1870. Perraud also refers to his physical fatigue and the need for rest after several weeks of retreat and travel. The tone is friendly and spontaneous, revealing a prelate who was very active in Savoie's religious networks at the time. Handsome autograph signature "Perraud". Very good condition.
