PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert) - Lot 125
PERRAUD (Adolphe Louis Albert)
Lyon, February 7, 1828 - Autun, February 10, 1906.
Oratorian, bishop of Autun, cardinal, ecclesiastical historian and member of the Académie française.
L.A.S. "A. Perraud", Autun, October 2, 1879, to a friend; 3 pages in-8 on embossed paper with his coat of arms.
Interesting letter concerning a stay in Annecy and his relations with the Savoyard clergy.
Perraud indicates that he was detained for several days in Annecy "at the home of the new bishop, Mgr Isoard", and specifies that he still intends to stay there "from October 13 to 22". He also mentions a forthcoming visit "to the Archbishop of Chambéry".
The letter mixes personal considerations, observations on his travels and more ecclesiastical remarks. In particular, the cardinal refers to various worldly and religious invitations and obligations, mentioning "a visit to Rome", as well as several personalities in his entourage.
The tone is warm and lively, revealing the social networks of the French high clergy at the end of the 19th century. There are also concrete details of his travel conditions, travel plans and pastoral calendar.
Fine "A. Perraud".
A few center folds; very good overall condition.
