PASTEUR, Louis - Lot 120
PASTEUR, Louis Louis Pasteur Large color portrait of Louis Pasteur in his laboratory, based on the famous painting by Albert Edelfelt housed at the Sorbonne. Photomechanical reproduction published to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Institut Pasteur's inauguration (1888-1938). This emblematic image shows the scientist observing a laboratory balloon in the middle of his study, surrounded by scientific instruments, in a composition that has become one of Pasteur's most famous representations. A fine decorative and documentary element, it testifies to the memorial cult paid to the founder of French microbiology during the interwar period. A few marginal tears and losses, mainly at the right edge, but no major damage to the image.
