PASTEUR, Louis - Lot 119
PASTEUR, Louis Louis Pasteur Set of portraits and iconographic reproductions dedicated to Louis Pasteur, published on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the inauguration of the Institut Pasteur (1888-1938). The set includes several portraits depicting Pasteur at different periods in his life: a photograph after Nadar, a youth portrait bearing the inscription "Strasbourg, July 6, 1850", a stylized engraved interpretation, as well as various photographic reproductions sometimes bearing the inscription "Offert par Mr Deschiens" and reproducing the scientist's signature. Published in a commemorative and educational context, this set testifies to the symbolic importance acquired by Pasteur in French scientific history and in twentieth-century medical iconography. An interesting documentary and decorative lot on the founding figure of modern microbiology. Preserved in sheets, in satisfactory condition despite some handling, small folds and light marginal foxing.
