MAC AULIFFE (Léon). Born in Paris, 1876-1937. French physici - Lot 100
MAC AULIFFE (Léon). Born in Paris, 1876-1937. French physician and morphologist. L.A.S. "Mac-Auliffe" to a friend. Paris, May 27, 1927. 1 page in-4 on engraved letterhead of Dr. Léon Mac-Auliffe, former assistant director at the École des Hautes Études, 6 rue Octave-Feuillet, Paris XVIe. Interesting letter on work and intellectual relations, in which Mac-Auliffe discusses a number of editorial and scientific issues. First of all, the doctor indicates that he is thinking of following his correspondent's advice "despite the 800-franc saving offered by Gaubert", while specifying that he is still awaiting a reply before making a final decision. He then mentions the forthcoming dispatch of proofs: "Your entire copy is in Châteauroux, and I'm told you'll be receiving proofs shortly. The letter also testifies to Mac-Auliffe's admiration for his friend's work, whose analytical quality he emphasizes: "My congratulations on the analysis of the psychology of the person. What a piece of work, and how grateful I am!" The tone becomes more personal in the conclusion, revealing the practitioner's overwork and need for reflection: "The patients don't give me a moment's rest, and I'd have so much to work on and meditate on." A fine autographе combining scientific considerations, editorial concerns and personal confidence, representative of the intellectual exchanges of the Parisian medical-literary milieu between the wars.
