ISAMBERT (Émile) - Lot 86
ISAMBERT (Émile) Émile Isambert 1827-1876. Paris hospital physician, French orientalist and archaeologist. L.A.S. "E. Isambert", s.l.n.d. [March 3], 2 1/2 pages in-12 on lined blue paper. Fine scientific and editorial letter addressed to a medical colleague or friend concerning the printing of a thesis and medical work in progress. Isambert describes in detail the state of his manuscript intended for printing: "My copy is very clean, definitive, and provided with all the typographical signs. There will be no numerous corrections or reworking...". He adds: "I now have the whole of my question, and the writing will go on like clockwork. In an interesting bibliographical postscript, he asks for a recently published medical work: "If you could get me (...) the volume of the new edition of Valleix (by Lorain) which deals with syphilis and virulent diseases, you would be doing me a favor..." A vivid account of the scholarly and publishing networks of the Parisian medical community during the Second Empire, combining printing concerns, the circulation of specialized works and research into venereal diseases. A Paris hospital physician, Émile Isambert was also known for his archaeological work and travels in the Orient. Sending folds, a few small brown spots and minor marginal stains.
