GUINGAND (Suzanne) - Lot 79
GUINGAND (Suzanne)
Autograph letter signed to Jacques Mortane, Versailles, March 25, 1936.
1 p. in-4 on blue paper, with preserved envelope and postage stamp.
Touching letter from Suzanne Guingand, mother of pilot Gilbert de Guingand, who died accidentally in an airplane in 1918, recalling with emotion an article recently devoted to her son in the aeronautical press.
She warmly thanks Jacques Mortane for recalling the memory of the young aviator almost twenty years after the event:
"[...] Such was the title of an article in the "Petit Parisien", enveloping the resembling fighter that the "new ace" brought back from Châlons-Thierry; as I read it, with what joy, you can imagine, it seemed to me to revisit with such faithful and touching friendship the memory of the ever grateful old mother [...] ".
She added that this late evocation of the missing pilot would have deeply moved her son:
"[...] who, before thanking you, would have liked to finish reading about the new affront to glorious aviation [...]".
A fine letter of remembrance and loyalty to the heroes of French aviation in the Great War. A moving testimony to the survival of the cult of aviators who died for France in the 1930s.
Very good condition.
