GRISOLLE (Augustin). Physician. Member of the French Academy - Lot 75
GRISOLLE (Augustin). Physician. Member of the French Academy of Medicine. Born 1811, died 1869.
L.A.S. "Grisolle" addressed to members of the Société des Sciences médicales et naturelles de Bruxelles.
Paris, August 19, 1868. 1 p. in-4.
Elegant letter of thanks from the famous physician Augustin Grisolle to the Société des Sciences médicales et naturelles de Bruxelles, on the occasion of his appointment as corresponding member.
In this letter of great academic courtesy, Grisolle expresses his gratitude to his Belgian colleagues with simplicity and dignity:
"This is a reward to which I attach great importance; it is also an encouragement for me to further justify the distinction with which you have honored my career.
Grisolle was a renowned 19th-century physician, professor of medical clinics in Paris and member of the Académie de Médecine, known in particular for his work on pneumonia and infectious diseases. This letter bears witness to the European influence of learned medical societies during the Second Empire, and to the intellectual ties between French and Belgian scientific circles.
A very fine manuscript, with large, legible handwriting and a particularly warm, respectful tone, preserved in good condition. A fine example of 19th-century scholarly correspondence.
