GRASSET (Bernard) - Lot 74
GRASSET (Bernard) Montpellier, 1881 - Paris, 1955. French publisher, founder of Editions Grasset, a major figure in French literary life in the first half of the 20th century. L.T.S. "Bernard Grasset" to Jean Rostand. January 21, 1942. 1 page in-4 typewritten. Interesting signed typed letter to Jean Rostand, in response to a request made a few days earlier by the biologist and writer concerning the book Chemins de l'écriture. Bernard Grasset writes cordially: "I was very touched by your little note and send you my new book 'Les Chemins de l'écriture' as a tribute." He continues: "I hope these pages will hold your attention." and concludes with a particularly kind wording: "Please give my affectionate regards to your wife...". A fine exchange between two important French intellectual figures during the Occupation, illustrating the personal ties between authors and publishers in the Parisian literary world. Well-preserved document, with normal traces of handling and slight creases from use.
